Episode 22: Shana De Caro elected as Chairwoman of the Brain Injury Association of America

In this week’s episode of Brain Injury Insider, host Michael Kaplen discusses partner Shana De Caro’s recent election as Chairwoman of the Brain Injury Association of America.

I have some wonderful news to share with you today. My partner, Shana De Caro, was elected to be the new chairwoman of the board of directors of the Brain Injury Association of America.

Founded 40 years ago by parents and spouses of brain injury survivors left with catastrophic injuries requiring lifelong care and support, the Brain Injury Association of America is the nation’s oldest, largest, and most effective brain injury advocacy group in the United States.

For over 40 years, the Brain Injury Association of America, also known as BIAA, has offered help, hope, and healing to all those affected by brain injury.

In Congress, in medical associations, in the world of rehabilitation, BIAA is increasingly looked to for their advice, assistance, and partnership to address this invisible, silent epidemic. An epidemic that has caused over 5.2 million brain injuries in the United States alone.

Shana has previously served the association as a member of its board of directors, as its secretary, and as its vice chairwoman.

Shana was the first female chair of the American Association for Justice Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group. In addition, she serves on the board of directors of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers.

For over thirty five years, she has successfully represented those with brain injury caused by the careless conduct of others, and by those who place profits over safety.

She knows how to get things done, and she’s a fierce and staunch advocate for brain injury survivors.

I am confident that under her stewardship BIAA will continue to grow and effectively continue to build awareness among both the public, and in the halls of Congress, of the lifelong consequences of brain injury, for whatever cause, and demand that this public health crisis, and this epidemic be dealt with in a compassionate and coordinated manner.
