The study looked at college students who suffered a concussion and compared them with a control group. Reaction and stopping time were examined when approaching a traffic signal that was changing from green to yellow and a child running in front of car. Drivers who had suffered a concussion had slower reaction time in both scenarios, even after all symptoms resolved. These findings have important implications for the millions of Americans who suffer a concussion each year It is important that before an individual resumes driving following a concussion, their reaction time and driving abilities be independently examined.
